As Spain’s third largest city Valencia has plenty to offer. It remains extremely competitively priced for investment property when compared to the glamour cities of Madrid and Barcelona.

Americas Cup 2009

With the provisional announcement that the city will again play host to the 2009 America’s Cup and the continuing investment this will bring to the city - there has never been a better time to buy. The announcement will reinforce the need to finish infrastructure plans around the city, such as the high-speed rail link to Madrid. It will also prevent the area around the port being left unfinished in traditional Spanish style.

The jobs created have been a real boost to the local economy. Many predict that the Cup will have the same dynamic impact on the Valencia economy that the 1992 Olympic games had on Barcelona.

Nevertheless, wind and sea conditions were seen to be near ideal during the race period and organizers announced that good and predictable weather was a key factor in their decision.

Preliminary rounds are expected to begin in Valencia in the summer of 2008 with the final itself in 2009.

Formula 1

Recently announced, the European leg of the Formula 1 championship will be held in Valencia in August 2008. The site for the race will be around the Americas cup port in a newly created, Monte Carlo style setting. This event will provide a focus for many more years of investment in the area and considerably add to the "glam" appeal of the city.

Investment potential

Valencia is surrounded by some of Spain’s most popular holiday destinations and is seen to be easily capable of absorbing the inevitable influx of visitors. Over the past few years, Valencia has invested in building spectacular modern science, oceanographic and opera facilities in a bid to compete in the lucrative tourist trade. However, tourism still forms a tiny part of the local economy.

The investment potential of the city in particular is immense. Where else in a major European city can you buy a luxury apartment in the most sought-after areas for less than 250.000 euros.

Emails continue to come in from investors recognizing the potential capital growth for property in and around Valencia. Many see it as an opportunity to buy into the "New Barcelona".
