There are currently a number of championship golf courses within a 20 minute drive of the airport and city centre, with more in the planning stages. Among the most popular are El Bosque, El Escorpion, Golf Manises and El Saler.

Golf in Valencia is still widely regarded as an elitist pastime and membership can be very expensive. However this is often taken out on a debenture type arrangement which can be sold on or left to the next of kin!

Green fees are similar to the UK and more reasonable than more famous Costa del Sol and Algarve courses.

El Bosque:

This is located within a 10-15 minute drive of the airport on a picturesque,  undulating 18 hole course with narrow fairways and four lakes which can make making par a challenge. Greens are defended in places by pine trees and blend with the surroundings. As a whole the course could be described as variable in difficulty, challenging in places but your handicap should be achievable.

El Escorpion:

This 18 hole course is located on the outskirts of Valencia, a 15 minute drive from city centre and the airport. The course has a large number of hotels close to hand making a stay without the need of a car easily viable. The course is set in a pretty, pine covered valley surrounded by undulating hills. The setting is relatively flat with five lakes and orange groves acting as the rough in places.

Golf Manises

The oldest of Valencia’s clubs, Golf Manises is virtually beside the airport and is a relatively simple course, less challenging than many and suitable for the less mobile and beginners. The nine hole course is flat with narrow, tree lined fairways making accuracy all important. Greens are small and well guarded by bunkers. The approach is often tight with ample rough to catch the unwary.

El Saler

Located in the Albufera Nature Park on the southern outskirts of the city, it is a links type course alongside the Mediterranean coast. Close to the city, it is favoured by many of the footballing stars.

The land is, as you would expect, scattered with sand dunes and pine trees. It is a long and demanding course with wide greens and more than 90 bunkers.

Relatively new to tourism, the Camp de Turia area has awoken to the social and financial benefits of golf. A new Lliria golf course is planned for the area between Lliria and Olocau and should pass the last bureaucratic hurdle shortly. Along with the new course will come a huge development of golfside villas.
