Enjoying a Californian climate

Valencia enjoys an invitingly Californian climate. The nearby Mediterranean moderates the temperatures so that summer days are usually cooler than the interior and winter nights stay relatively warm. This means that for most people, staying cool is more important than keeping warm. Although winter nights can be chilly, a jacket or sweater is usually the warmest clothing you will need during the daytime. Sandals can be worn throughout the summer and much of the spring and autumn. Cool sunglasses are essential.

Average temperatures

The average annual temperature is 64ºF (17.8ºC) with average daily highs of 72ºF (22.3ºC) and lows of 56ºF (13.4ºC). This compares with a daily average high of 55ºF (12.8ºC) and low of 43ºF (6.1ºC) for Manchester.

Winter in Valencia can have its chilly mornings and a light frost can fall on some evenings. However, the average daily high for the winter months is 62ºF (16.7ºC). This compares with a numbing average daily winter high of 43ºF (6.0ºC) for Manchester.

On average less than one day a week is rainy (44 a year) and it would be too painful to make a direct comparison on this point with Manchester, or anywhere else in the United Kingdom. During the darkest months of the year, Valencia still manages an average of six hours of sunshine a day and this rises to over nine hours between April and September.

Another notable difference with the United Kingdom is the relative stability of the weather in Valencia. Being far from the stormy Atlantic and near to the warm mass of the Mediterranean makes the weather forecaster’s job so much easier. This means that sunny weather tends to linger. And of course, this makes it much easier to plan events such as outings and barbeques.
